The Scripture says,
To whom much is given, much is required.
We believe that God has blessed our students with advantages and gifts in many areas. Each young person possesses certain scholarly and intellectual abilities. Therefore we offer a college-prepartory curriculum and a wide range of activities. Oklahoma Christian School strives to honor God through a strong academic program.
The courses are the framework on which we build our strong academic program. Our foundation is a Christ-centered, biblically-based program. OCS purpose is to affect lives for the Kingdom of God. Our passion is to be found faithful in all aspects of education.
Lower School Courses
Pre-Kindergarten
The Pre-Kindergarten program is designed to be foundational for social and academic school readiness.
Within a loving, nurturing, Christ-centered environment and under the direction of a certified teacher,
children learn Bible truths, memorize scripture, and are instructed in beginning phonics, numbers, and language skills.
Organizational skills are practiced, as well as learning to work independently and in groups. Instruction continues in art,
computer, music, and play centers.

Kindergarten
The Kindergarten program provides a Christian environment in which learning can take place.
Our philosophy of “building the whole person” socially, spiritually, academically, and physically
is reflected in our program and activities. The children develop their fine-motor, gross-motor,
visual, and observational skills through center activities. The reading program includes phonics,
fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. The language development of each child is assured
with the many opportunities for self-expression throughout the day. Through the enrichment classes offered,
children develop an appreciation of fine arts, music, physical education, and creative expression.

First Grade
First grade is rich with learning in the core academic areas of reading, math, science and social studies.
An emphasis on phonics as well as other reading components are foundational in preparing students to become
fluent readers for years to come. Penmanship and spelling are taught as well. While Biblical integration is
woven throughout, deliberate Bible instruction takes place daily. Opportunities to teach important character
qualities abound inside and outside of the classroom, providing students with relational skills that will enrich
their lives and those they are with for a lifetime. Students enjoy additional instruction in art, vocal music,
technology, and physical education throughout the week.

Second Grade
Second grade students develop fluency and expression as they become more independent readers. They continue building the use
of phonics and word-attack skills. Reading comprehension and basic understanding of literary genres are explored in
directed reading groups. Students enjoy fun and expressive oral book reports giving them valuable public speaking confidence.
It is also during the second grade year that students apply the Four Square writing techniques and writing is continued across
the curriculum. Mathematical skills are expanded with focus on larger number operations and more advanced number concepts.
Intentional daily Bible study provides students guidance in the application of
God’s principles for daily living. Enrichment classes provide developmentally appropriate instruction in art, vocal music,
technology, and physical education.

Third Grade
Third grade students become more confident in reading and comprehension. They explore many different genres and short stories.
They also read several novels. Focus is put on comprehension, cause and effect, predicting, drawing conclusions, and sequencing
through their reading. Creative writing directly ties in with the reading curriculum. Teachers use hands-on methods to teach an
understanding of number sense. Students master addition and subtraction to the ten thousands’ place. In addition, they learn to
multiply, divide, and solve basic algebra problems. Students continue to develop an understanding of grammar rules and apply them
in their writing. All subjects are filtered through a Christian worldview. Students also participate in enrichment classes such as
art, vocal music, technology and physical education.

Fourth Grade
Fourth grade emphasizes writing more developed paragraphs and stories building upon an increased
understanding of grammar and sentence structure. Throughout the year, we are exposed to many forms of literature, including
short stories, novels, and poetry as we gain a greater appreciation for various genres. Perhaps our favorite literature unit
is The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe where our classrooms and hallways are transformed into Narnia. Our study of American history
and geography takes us from the early explorers to statehood using creative hands-on units such as Colonial Days and Land Run.
In Bible, we connect the salvation story from Genesis through Revelation with an emphasis on the personal disciplines of Bible study,
scripture memory, and living out our faith in every area of our lives. Mathematical skills increase in areas such as number sense,
operations, measurement, geometry, algebra, data analysis, probability and mathematical reasoning. Our science program promotes scientific
literacy as we see and learn the processes involved in the scientific method and are inspired to explore God’s creation.
Biblical integration is readily seen in every subject area. Enrichment classes consist of art, vocal music, technology
(twice a week with one time on specific keyboarding), and physical education.
